By 1982, some seawalls were becoming fragile. In June of 1982, the "No Name" storm came along and approximately 600 homesites lost their seawalls. The Marco Island Civic Association formed a Seawall Committee, and wrote standards for seawall construction and repair. In 1985, the County adopted these standards, and this is now a county ordinance.

Since 1982, almost all of the older seawalls have had the tierods replaced.
